Nothing much to report, our classes haven’t started yet and
won’t for another week and a half, so I don’t have any classroom stories to
share. Things have been generally quiet; Niels and I have been relaxing, but
also trying to get some prep work done before we start teaching. It’s going to
be a big adjustment this term, we’re going to be doing some real teaching,
unlike what we did last year, which was fake it really, really well.
But, even before classes start we’re running into issues
with one of the texts we’re using. It’s a compilation of lessons with notes
stating which chapters from various books should be used for the week’s lesson.
Instead of providing copies of the books to us, we had to photocopy the necessary
pages from the one set of books they had, creating a teacher’s edition and a
student’s edition. The school then had it all bound for us. Unfortunately, the
book they provided with the information of what should be photocopied had a
bunch of mistakes in it. So my first lesson has a section in it that shouldn’t
even be there. Am I surprise by this? No, it’s typical.
Other than that nothing much is going on. We’re still
waiting for our phone to be installed, our toilet seat fixed, airfare
reimbursed, receipt of our meal card, and receipt of the teacher’s edition of
one of our other books along with the cassette tapes. In essence it’s been a
And the Internet still sucks, I can’t look at any photos
that have been posted to blogs or on Flickr. Unfortunately it's not going to get better anytime soon.
