Right after work last night, Niels & I headed up to Chez D&S to
spend a couple days before flying up to Buffalo to spend quality time
with my family.
Leaving work wasn't as sad as I expected it to be. I had wanted to
finish everything up by 4:45pm so I could spend about 15 minutes
walking around and saying good-bye to people. Unfortunately, things
were so crazy right up to the last minute that I had to rush out of
there to be sure that I'd be able to meet up with Niels and get good
seats on the MARC train.
I should have hung out and said goodbye to people.
Traffic was bad, so the cab ride took twice as long as it should have.
The MARC was late because of the heat and by the time it arrived, the
throngs of people made it impossible for us to get seats. Thank
goodness someone was nice enough to trade places with me so I could
pile most of our luggage into a corner and stand next too it.
I've to go through the crap I've brought with me to see how it can be
re-packed to make the big blue duffle bag not as heavy. A bunch of the
items that we're taking to Buffalo will stay in Buffalo, but it's still
heavy. And because my back is so bad, Niels is being a super trooper
and carying it. I think we're going to get a duffle from LLBean that
has wheels because otherwise it's going to be painful for him.
Our departure date is still up in the air. We're waiting to get our
work permit stuff so we can go to the Embassy here & get our visas
instead of making a very expensive trip to Hong Kong. Niels is all set,
but because I've had the same kind of teaching experiece as him they
need my TEFL certificate before they can send us the paperwork.
I've two lessons to go, which will be done this weekend. So hopefully
they'll get me the certificate by Wednesday. I'd like to have
everything settled while by the time we leave Buffalo.
